  1. TD and RY have both been recent buys for me last week and continue to be on my watch list for March too along with BNS. I like GE as well but at under $25. Thanks for sharing your stock list.

  2. We live in Texas also. We played the college game a long time ago. There are a few things we learned that every parent of a college bound student should know.
    1. Begin the Freshman HS year to look at schools that have a degree plan that your child believes will fit them as to a profession.
    2. As a Sophomore, be down to about 50 colleges in the nation and begin querying the schools the student is looking at hardest. Be sure to find out if the school will take the SAT or ACT or if they require special science or math test along with the regular test
    3. By the junior year the student needs to be taking the pre-test and also cut the college choices down to 5-10 along with doing some extra-curricular activities about town(public service projects).. If the pre-test scores are low, get a tutor.
    4. In the senior year and I mean by August prepare to cut the school choice to 5 or less and take the main test whether SAT or ACT and add-on test depending on the colleges chosen. To get the most funds from any school only list that one school on the grades that you send to the college from the testing agency. It cost more to do it this way but you have a better chance of getting the most funding. Every school wants to feel that your child only wants to go to their school. If the student has 5 choices then pay the extra fees and send one (1) score to each college with only their name on the test scores. That way you get the best offer from each school.
    5. AP or Dual credit classes are good but not imperative. They do help on funding but only help if the student scores high enough to help their overall grade point.

Be careful about picking too many hard classes if the teen plays any sport unless they are the best in that state in that sport.

UT-Dallas is a good school but she may want to consider going to Collin College or DCCCD during the summer or winter or may breaks to pick up some of her required courses. This will save you a lot of money, just make sure she understands that only a C or above will transfer to a large school.

And now to stocks. I also have a dividend based portfolio of about 60 stocks. I am watching about 100 additional stocks. I just bought or added to my positions on ED, OKE, GIS, PSO, UL and BBL. You have a good list of stocks and in some places we overlap.

    Good hunting from Richardson
